Dreamdance

A few weeks ago I photographed a dance for a few American Fork High School students. After a recent school-sponsored dance they felt some injustice had been done by the ultra-conservative dress code which barred several young ladies from attending. They brought the issue up to their government and politics teacher, Mr. Salcido, during a discussion of the democratic process and civil disobedience. He suggested that if they were so dissatisfied with the school's standards they should hold their own dance.
To their teachers' surprise, the girls organized and carried out a well-attended dance which they aptly named "Dare to Dream 2008," which I had the pleasure of photographing. Here's to them for having the gumption to do something about a system they disagree with.
